Three Buffs Named CU Athletes of the Week, Presented by Arrow

BOULDER-- This week was another big week as three Colorado Buffaloes were named the Athletes of the Week presented by Arrow.  The three athletes were Adam Matteson of men's golf, Lauren Gooding of women's golf and Antonia Balzert from tennis.  

Matteson set the school record for best 54-hole score in relation to par in school history at the CU-Mark Simpson Invitational, where the team finished tied for fifth. He finished with a team-high 17 birdies (fourth most in the field) with 33 pars and just four bogeys. He played the par-4s at 9-under, tying him for third best in the field. 

Gooding tied for third in the GolfWeek Red Sky Classic. The redshirt freshman recorded a 3-under 141 (68-73). Her 4-under 68 in the first round tied for the second-best debut round in Buffs program history. She also recorded one eagle in each round. This tied for the most in the tournament. CU finished fifth in the tournament (283-300 - 583). 

Balzert finished as a runner-up in the St. Mary's College Fall Invite. She defeated Erin Richardson of Cal in two straight sets in the semifinals, going 4-1 in the tournament. 

Men's golf already played again this week at the Fighting Irish Classic in Notre Dame, Ind.  Women's golf will head to Addison, Ill., next week for the Illini Invitational and tennis will have the weekend off to prepare for the ITA Mountain Regionals in Las Vegas, Nev. from October 13-17.
