Wildcats Battle, Fall in Four to No. 11 Washington

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona battled hard, but fell in four sets to No. 11 Washington on Friday night. The Cats won the first set 26-24, but the Huskies took the next three sets 25-23, 25-19, and 25-23.
 
Set 1 | Arizona - 26, Washington - 24
Emery Herman led the Cats to the first set win with eight assists, four kills, and a block. Sofia Maldonado Diaz followed with three kills and Zyonna Fellows dominated at the net with five block assists and two kills. The Cats held Washington to a .136 hitting percentage thanks to five team blocks.
 
Set 2 | Arizona - 23, Washington - 25
In the second set, Puk Stubbe had five kills to help Arizona keep the lead for most the set before the Huskies came from behind to win the set. Jaelyn Hodge and Maldonado Diaz both had three kills for the Cats. Fellows recorded back-to-back kills and two blocks, totaling four kills and seven blocks in two sets.
 
Set 3 | Arizona - 19, Washington - 25
Maldonado Diaz found her momentum in the third set, tallying four kills but the Huskies took an early lead and Arizona couldn't battle back. Stubbe and Merle Weidt recorded two kills each and Herman had two solo blocks and seven assists before Washington took the third set 25-19.
 
Set 4 | Arizona - 23, Washington - 25
Washington took the fourth set, 25-23. Maldonado Diaz led Arizona again with six kills followed by Stubbe with four kills and a block assist. Fellows recorded a kill and a block solo, totaling a career high eight blocks in the match. Herman had three kills to help the Cats tie the match 12 times with the Huskies.
