Cougars Shine on Day Two of Husky Invite

SEATTLE, Wash. – Washington State Women's Tennis won seven of eight matches on the second day of the 2021 Husky Invite, played at the Nordstrom Tennis Center Saturday.
 
In Saturday's tournament format, WSU faced Oregon in doubles and DePaul in singles.
 
The day began with doubles where the Cougars swept all three matches against the Ducks. Michaela Bayerlova and Savanna Ly-Nguyen used a service break to defeat Misaki Kobayashi and Myah Petchey, 6-4. Yang Lee and Fifa Kumhom used a late break to defeat Allison Mulville and Sophie Luescher, 7-5, while Maxine Murphy and Hania Abouelsaad posted a 6-4 win over Uxia Martinez Moral and Ares Teixido Garcia.
 
In singles action, WSU captured four of five matches, three in straight sets. For the second-straight day, Bayerlova had no trouble in her outing, this time winning 6-1, 6-0 over Lenka Antonijevic. Ly-Nguyen defeated Yuliya Kizelbasheva, 6-3, 6-3, while Abouelsaad got past Marija Jovicic, 6-3, 6-4. Murphy, who played a three-set match Friday, found herself in another three-set battle, this time coming out on top with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Maddie Yergler. Kumhom battled to a close first set against Eleanor Nobbs before falling, 7-5, 6-1.
 
The Cougars conclude play at the Husky Invite Sunday with singles play against Washington.
