Utes Conclude Day Three of Utah Invitational

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Invitational tournament continued indoors at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center this morning despite the heavy downpour. The Utes concluded the second to last day with difficult double and single matches.
 
The day began at 8 a.m. with doubles play and the Utes faced the Montana State Bobcats. On court one, Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula dropped their match against Matej Panik and Necj Sitar, 6-4.
 
On court two, Jayson Blando and Mathias Gavelin made great efforts to down the Bobcat duo, but fell short nearing the end of their match for score 7-5. Court three once again granted the Utes their first win of the day when Michael Blando and Bruno Krenn defeated MSU's Jamieson Nathan and Manuel Monteiro, 6-3.
 
The Utes then moved into single matches, where players faced opponents from Idaho State. On court one Utah's Bastias had a long battle against Bengal Patrick Thrac, but ultimately took the upper hand and finished 6-3, 5-7, 6-0. On court two, Caula also downed his opponent and secured his first victory of the day with score 6-3, 6-3.
 
On court three Gavelin faced Andreas Kramer and despite putting up a fight, lost the match 7-6(5), 6-4. Krenn had a close match on court five after dropping the first set but recovering and winning the next two, defeating Hiroki Fujita 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. On court five J. Blando took the victory against ISU's Ege Cankus, 6-3, 6-3. Court six saw Ute M. Blando take his first defeat of the day after falling short against Bengal Wikus Robbertse, 6-3, 6-3.
