Oct 12, 2021

Corvallis, Ore. - The Utah Men's Golf team finished in third place at the Oregon State Invitational after shooting 3-over (855). All five Utes finished inside the top 25 for the first time this season as the team recorded their third straight top three finish. This is the first time since the 2016-17 season that Utah has recorded three consecutive top three finishes.

Utah started out the two-day tournament by shooting 2-over (286) in round one. The Utes and the rest of the 15-team field were unable to complete the last few holes of round two that day due to darkness.

The team finished the final few holes the following morning to give them a round two score of 3-under (281). The team recorded 23 birdies in round two giving them a tournament score of 1-under (567) through 36 holes. On the final 18, the team shot 4-over (288) to solidify their place in the top three.

INDIVIDUAL BREAKDOWN
Senior Tristan Mandur led the Utes shooting 4-under (209) and claiming third place. Mandur shot 2-under (69) in both the first and third rounds of the tournament to record his highest finish since qualifying for the NCAA Individual Championship in the 2020-2021 season.

The team's second highest finisher was senior Blake Tomlinson who shot 1-over (214). Tomlinson started slow but came on strong in round two to record the lowest 18 individual round score by any Ute at the tournament, shooting 3-under (68). He would go on to shoot 1-over (72) on the final 18 which allowed him to climb the leader board three spots and finish in a four-way tie for 13th.

Sophomore Jesper von Reedtz shot 4-over (217) to finish in a tie for 18th. Reedtz's best round came on the second 18 where he recorded five birdies on his way to shooting 1-under (70). He would go on to shoot 2-over (73) on the final 18 allowing him to climb the leader board six spots and finish inside the top 20.

Rounding out the team were Freshman Martín León and sophomore Javier Barcos who both finished in a 6-person tie for 24th. Both players shot 5-over (218) with León shooting 1-over (72) in the first two rounds while Barco's best round came on the first 18 where he shot even (71).

True Freshman Joseph Lloyd competed in his first ever tournament as an individual. Lloyd tied for 38th after shooting 10-over (223).

TALKING ABOUT THE ROUND: HEAD COACH GARRETT CLEGG
"Overall, a solid tournament for us and it was really good to see all of our players finish inside the top 25. Tristan was outstanding this week and it was great to see him get that confidence boost with how he hit the ball. Blake's game is getting closer to where he wants it and that's great to see because when he's firing on all cylinders that helps our team a lot. Today we got off to a great start and then had a sloppy stretch. We're playing good golf, but we want to put together a full tournament of quality golf. We're excited to get back to work and hit the road again soon."
