Buff Freshman Advances To Semifinals

LAS VEGAS – Colorado women's tennis true freshman Mila Stanojevic advanced to the semifinals in the Flight B Singles tournament here Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Championships.
 
The freshman defeated Lisa Zhu of New Mexico State in the quarterfinals by a score of 7-5, 6-3. After receiving a first-round bye, Stanojevic has not given up a set since the first one in the round of 32. She was the only athlete to advance to the semifinals without giving up a set in the quarterfinals. She will face Cindy Hu of UNLV tomorrow in the semifinals and seek a final appearance against either Wing Ka Lin of BYU or Air Force's Karina Chao.
 
Stanojevic had a busy day as she was also in the round of 16 doubles with Megan Forster. The Buff duo fell in a close set to Grace Haugen and Maria Goheen of Montana. The teams battled to a tiebreaker where the Buffs fell 8-7(5).
 
With the doubles exit, Stanojevic is the last remaining CU athlete in the main tournament.
 
Colorado went 3-0 in the Flight A added matches as Antonia Balzert defeated Zita Kovacs of UNLV 6-3, 6-2. Forster downed Anastasia Abramyan of BYU 6-2, 7-5 and Maria Campos took care of Lola O'Lideadha of Idaho State easily by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
 
In the Flight B added matches, Betina Tokac picked up a win against Alexis Odom of Air Force 6-0, 6-4. Ellen Puzak fell to an individual from Montana State 7-6, 6-3 while Ky Ecton fell to Qianxin Kong of BYU 6-3, 7-5.
 
Ecton and Campos teamed up in an added doubles match and fell 6-4 to a team from Utah, while Tokac and Puzak downed a team from Air Force 6-1.
