Hjorth Reaches Singles Quarters In Moraga

Philip Hjorth will play in the singles quarterfinals on Saturday in Moraga.

MORAGA, Calif. – Cal men's tennis senior Philip Hjorth continued his march through the singles main draw of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, when the top-seeded Golden Bear defeated San Francisco's Nil Giraldez in the round of 16 on Friday at Saint Mary's.
 
Hjorth beat the 12th-seeded Giraldez, 6-3, 6-4, at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
 
In doubles, Cal's fourth-seeded pair of Alex Chang and Carl Emil Overbeck fell to Sacramento State's seventh-seeded duo of Mark Keki and Ori Maior in a close match, 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.
 
The Bears picked up wins in the consolation singles round of 16 Friday, with Carl Emil Overbeck topping USF's Johan Garpered, 7-6(3), 6-3, and Lucas Magnaudet beating Santa Clara's Nick Cmager, 6-4, 6-4.
 
On Saturday, Hjorth plays the fifth-seeded James Watt of Saint Mary's in the 11 a.m. main draw quarterfinals, Overbeck faces Nevada's Daniel Dudockin in the 11 a.m. consolation quarterfinals, and Magnaudet takes on the Gaels' Karlo Divkovic also at 11 a.m. in the consolation quarterfinals.
