Bush Wins First Freshman Of The Week

Oct 18, 2021

SEATTLE -- After hitting .500 in consecutive matches, Emoni Bush was a shoo-in for Pac-12 Freshman of the Week this week. The outside hitter from Campbell River, Canada earned her first such honor this afternoon.

Bush helped spark Washington's comeback win at No. 13 Oregon on Thursday, joining the mix in the second set and posting 11 kills on 20 attacks with just one error as the Huskies rallied from 0-2 down to win in five at Matthew Knight Arena. On Sunday, there was no letdown, as Bush had eight kills on 14 swings with one error in a 3-0 Husky sweep over Oregon State. For the week she averaged 3.17 kills per set, and raised her season attack percentage from .135 to .155 in just the two matches.

Bush is just the fourth different freshman to win a Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award this season. It's the twelfth Freshman of the Week award for a Husky since the award was created in 2011.

The Huskies have won six straight and are part of a four-way tie for first in the Pac-12 at 6-2, with three more teams one game back. Washington is home after a 4-0 road trip, taking on California this Friday night, and No. 15 Stanford on Sunday afternoon.
