Getting to Know U: Sophomore Kennady McQueen

Utah's Kennady McQueen returns for her second season with the Utes. She appeared in 21 games as a freshman during the 2020-21 season, averaging 16.7 minutes per game. She scored a career-high 11 points against Washington State on four-of-six shooting from the floor. McQueen reached double-figures in three games and averaged 5.1 points per game. Coming out of North Summit High School, McQueen was an ESPN Top 100 Player and a four-star recruit. She was named Utah Gatorade Player of the Year in 2019. 
 
McQueen recently caught up with UtahUtes.com to chat about why she is looking forward to this season, what made her fall in love with the game, and what her dream job is after graduation.

Q: When did you start playing basketball? Who was your favorite player growing up? 
A: I have been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. My favorite players growing up were Damian Lillard and Russell Westbrook.
 
Q: What about the sport of basketball made you fall in love with it? 
A: The fact that you can always improve. There is always something to get better at and meeting amazing people.
 
Q: What about the University of Utah made you want to continue your career here? 
A: The coaching staff, the culture, and my teammates. 
 
Q: What has been your favorite part about playing basketball at Utah so Far?
A: Being able to build close relationships with the coaching staff, my teammates, and the rest of the staff. They truly are a second family.
 
Q: Who in your life has been the most influential in getting you where you are today?
A: My parents
 
Q: What is your dream job and why? 
A: Being an athletic trainer, so I can always be around sports (especially basketball) and helping athletes get back to playing the game they love.
 
Q: What was it like growing up in your hometown? Any specific memories that stand out? 
A: Growing up in Henefer, we had to create our fun. Riding my dirt bike, fishing, the fair, and going to the town potato races.
 
Q: What is your favorite basketball moment growing and why? 
A: Traveling the country with my club team and creating life-long friendships.
 
Q: What is something people might not know about you? 
A: I love fishing!
 
Q: What are you most looking forward to this season? 
A: Competing in the Pac-12 with my best friends.
 
Q: What is it like playing in the Jon M. Huntsman Center? 
A: A great environment. I couldn't experience fans in The Huntsman Center my freshman year, so I cannot wait to feel the energy our fans bring.
 
Q: What is your favorite moment as a Ute? 
A: Upsetting Oregon State last year at their place.
 
Q: How appreciative are you for our fans? 
A: Very! They bring so much energy and give us so much support!
 
Q: If you could tell our fans one thing, what would it be? 
A: COME SUPPORT! It will be a great season, and you are not going to want to miss it!
