Josh Doan Scores Twice in Loss at Colgate

HAMILTON, NY -- Josh Doan served a hot start in Hamilton, scoring two goals within three minutes in the first period of play on Friday night. Arizona State (3-4-0) eventually fell to Colgate (5-1-0), 8-3. The rematch is set for Saturday, October 23, at 4 p.m. MST on ESPN+. 

Despite an early goal by the Raiders, the Sun Devils jumped to the lead with two goals from freshman forward Josh Doan in the first period. He notched the first - his second goal of the season - on a power play.
 

The second goal he scored less than three minutes later to give ASU the 2-1 lead. Sophomore Matthew Kopperud and graduate Jack Becker assisted on Doan's first. Johnny Walker and Colin Theisen both notched assists on ASU's second. 
 

Doan has three goals on the season totaling 11 points (3G, 8A) through seven games. Heading into the weekend, the Arizona native led the nation in assists. 

Becker scored ASU's third and final goal of the night at 7:09 on the power play. He was assisted by sophomore Ryan O'Reilly - the apple was O'Reilly's first point of the season. Theisen earned a secondary assist to finish the night with two points - he is on a four-game point-scoring streak.
 

Sophomore goaltender Cole Brady started in net for the fifth time this year. He made 21 saves through 40 minutes before junior netminder Ben Kraws entered for the final frame. Through regulation, ASU lead in shots with 38 to Colgate's 34. 

The teams meet in a rematch tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 23, at 7pm/4pm MST. The game will air on ESPN+.
