UCLA Tied for 11th at Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The UCLA men's golf team scored a 3-over 291 in round one of the 15th annual Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational, and currently sits in 11th place in the 15-team field. Graduate Eddy Lai – who is returning to the tournament after winning the individual title in 2019 – leads the Bruins with a 1-under 71, tied for 23rd.
 
Defending national champion No. 15 Pepperdine and No. 9 Texas A&M are tied in first place at 13-under 275. Joe Highsmith of the Wave is in first place on the individual leaderboard after shooting a 9-under 63, one stroke off of tying the tournament record set in 2010.
 
Lai birdied four times on the par-4 7th, par-4 12th, par-4 14th and par-5 18th. A bogey and on the par-4 8th and double bogey on the par-3 13th brought him back three strokes.
 
Freshman Omar Morales also birdied four times on day one, holing stars on the par-5 1st, par-4 7th, par-4 8th and par-3 13th. Morales finished with an even par 72, tied for 32nd.
 
After recording birdies on two of the first three holes on the back nine to start his day, senior Bryan Teoh completed his round with a 1-over 73. Teoh birdied one other time in the round on the par-4 4th to place tied for 39th.
 
Graduate Devon Bling finished his first 18 holes at 3-over 75, tied for 55th. Bling birdied twice on the par-5 9th and par-5 18th. Senior Sean Maruyama is tied for 66th after posting a 5-over 77 with one birdie on the par-5 9th.
 
Eddy Lai tees off first for the Bruins in round two at 6 a.m. PT tomorrow.
