Ly-Nguyen Reaches Fourth Round at ITA Northwest Regional
STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Savanna Ly-Nguyen reached the fourth round before seeing her tournament come to an end Saturday at the 2021 ITA Northwest Regional, played at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
Ly-Nguyen, who won both her matches Friday, picked right up today as she posted a 7-6, 6-1 win over Cal Poly's Emily Ackerman in the third round. Later in the afternoon, Ly-Nguyen faced the No. 6 seed, Stanford's Angelica Blake, falling 6-1, 7-6.
In consolation singles, Pacific's Miaangelina Ruja posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over WSU's Maxine Murphy while Cougar sophomore Fifa Kumhom fell to Portland's Aleksandra Dimitrijevic, 7-5, 6-4.
The day began with doubles play as Ly-Nguyen and Kumhom recorded a first-round win over Simran Chhabra and Mya Bui of San Francisco. The duo fell in the next round to Cal's Makenna Thiel and Hannah Viller Moeller, 6-2.
In the other first-round match, WSU's Yang Lee and Murphy dropped a 6-4 match to Cal's Jessica Alsola and Erin Richardson.
The ITA Northwest Regional continues Sunday morning.
