Strong Second Day
ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Stanford men's golf posted the best round of the day - 13-under 275 - to move up the leaderboard three spots on Saturday at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The Cardinal now sits at 15-under 561, 11 strokes off Pepperdine's lead, and in fifth place.
Junior Barclay Brown totaled nine birdies en route to a 6-under 66 on the Lakeside Course. In his 40th career round, Saturday was Brown's 14th round in the 60s. For the second straight day, sophomore Karl Vilips tallied a 5-under 67. Vilips, at 10-under 134, sits in third place.
Sophomore Michael Thorbjornsen and sixth year Henry Shimp posted 1-under 71s on Saturday to get the Cardinal to their 13-under number, Stanford's best round-to-par so far this season. It is tied for the 16th-best round (in relation to par) in school history.
Stanford will play Sunday's final round with Wake Forest and East Tennessee State.
