Spitz Posts Runner-Up Finish at Nanea

KAILUA KONA, Hawaii – Junior Emma Spitz recorded her best three rounds of golf this season with an 8-under 211 through her 54 holes for a runner-up finish at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview. Spitz was tied for the lead with USC's Katherine Muzi at 8-under with one hole to play, but Muzi birdied her final hole on the par-5 18th.  As a team, the No. 10 Bruins placed fifth at 14-over 890 in their final tournament of the fall season
 
No. 1 Stanford won the tournament title with a 1-under 875, four strokes ahead of second-place No. 22 USC.
 
Spitz has now strung together five under-par rounds, saving her best 18 holes of the Nanea Pac-12 Preview for last with a 4-under 69 featuring seven total birdies. Spitz holed three straight birdies on the par-4 12th, par-5 13th and par-4 14th and closed out the back nine with a birdie on the par-5 18th. She made her run at the tournament individual title on the first four holes of the front nine, tallying birdies on four of them: par-4 3rd, par-4 2nd and par-5 4th.
 
Freshman Caroline Canales tied for 24th after a score of 1-over 74 in the final round pushed her up seven spots on the individual leader board. Canales birdies twice on the par-4 1st and par-5 18th.
 
Freshman Zoe Antoinette Campos shot a 3-over 76 in round three with three birdies on the par-5 4th, par-5 13th and par-5 18th. Campos finished the tournament tied for 30th at 10-over 229. Junior Annabel Wilson rounded out the UCLA scorers with a 12-over 231 through her 54 holes, tying for 38th. Wilson shot a 4-over 77 on day three with two birdies on the par-4 3rd and par-4 5th.
 
The Bruins return to the links in 2022 on Jan. 23 at The Match in the Desert in Gold Canyon, Ariz., on the Superstition Mountain Golf Club.
