Chidekh Wins Opener At National Fall Champs

Nov 4, 2021

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Junior Clement Chidekh is off to another strong start at his third tournament of the fall season, and second major event, as the top-seeded Husky knocked off Tad Maclean of Auburn in the first round of the ITA National Fall Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center. The tournament, with just a field of 32, is the toughest to qualify for out of the three national individual tournaments on the college calendar.

Chidekh is through to the round of 16 with his 6-4, 6-2 win over Maclean, who was an NCAA Doubles Finalist in the spring of 2021 and was the ITA Southern Region runner-up this fall.

Friday, Chidekh will play Andrew Rogers of Pepperdine at 9 a.m. If he wins that, he'll play again in the quarterfinals later Friday.

In his first two tournaments this season, Chidekh made the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships and then the finals of the ITA Northwest Super Regional.
