8 Titles Highlight ASU’s Trip to Appalachian State

BOONE, North Carolina - The first weekend of Sun Devil Wrestling's season is in the books and it was one to remember. ASU went to Appalachian State's Mountaineer Invitational/Open in Boone, North Carolina and left with eight weight-class titles. Weekend highlights included eight Devils going undefeated, 11 major wins, seven pins, No. 4 HWT Cohlton Schultz' three-straight pins, Julian Chlebove beating No. 16 Jared Van Vleet (Air Force), and No. 4 Kyle Parco's #ParcoBomb of Jonathan Millner in the 149 final.

125 Brandon Courtney, 133 Michael McGee, 141 Jesse Vasquez, 149 Kyle Parco, 157 Jacori Teemer, 165 Anthony Valencia, 197 Kordell Norfleet and HWT Cohlton Schultz all collected tournament titles after going undefeated, with Vasquez, Teemer and Norfleet each having to battle through four bouts to get their hardware.
 
Teemer and Norfleet both recorded two major decisions too. Teemer's opening bout saw him beat out App State's Tommy Askey 14-5 before earning a 20-5 tech fall over Gardner Webb, a 11-5 win over Air Force's Giano Petrucelli, and capping the day with a 13-4 MD over the Mountaineers' Cody Bond. Norfleet handedly controlled every match he was in, outscoring the competition 58-8, the breakdown a 18-1 opening tech fall, 18-4 MD, 8-2 win, and a 14-1 MD against App State's Mason Fiscella in the final.
 
In the Open portion of the tournament, the Sun Devils celebrated Max Wilner finishing atop the 165 class, Cael Valencia winning the 174 class, and Chad Porter winning the heavyweight class.
