SEATTLE – For the second time this season, fourth-year middle Marin Grote has been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, after the Huskies completed a 2-0 trip to the Bay Area. Grote continues on a career-best season that has her ranked among the league leaders in attack percentage and blocks per set.
The Burbank, Calif. native had a stellar match in Washington's 3-1 win at No. 20 Stanford last Thursday, posting 15 kills and six blocks. It was Washington's fifth-straight win over Stanford, second-straight in Maples Pavilion, and gave the Dawgs their first home-and-away season sweep of the Cardinal since 2005.
She added a couple more blocks and four kills in just two sets of work in Sunday's sweep at California.
In conference play, Grote is averaging 1.15 blocks per set to rank seventh overall. Her .393 attack percentage is third-highest in Pac-12 play, and her 2.21 kills per set is a career-best.
Washington is tied with UCLA for first in the Pac-12 race at 13-3 with four matches remaining. The Huskies host Oregon State and 16th-ranked Oregon this Friday and Sunday, respectively, at Alaska Airlines Arena.
