SAN FRANCISCO – Cal women's basketball freshman guard Jayda Curry has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. This is the first Pac-12 honor for the Southern California native, who became the first Cal freshman to score 20 or more points in their first two collegiate games since the 1999-00 season.

For the week, Curry averaged 25.0 points per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field. She also grabbed 6.0 rebounds per game with two steals and three assists as Cal opened the season 2-0 with wins over Sacramento State at home and on the road at USF.

Curry's opened the week with a stellar showing against Sacramento State, scoring a team-high 23 points in the win over the Hornets. She finished the night going 9-for-22 from the field in that contest and was 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Curry followed that up by scoring a game-high 27 points in the lopsided win over USF at the Chase Center. A bulk of Curry's work came at the charity stripe, where she was 11-for-13.

In the second half last week, Curry was electric, scoring 29 of her 50 points, shooting 50.0 percent from the field and going 8-for-9 from the free throw line.

She becomes the first Cal player to earn Freshman of the Week honors since Evelien Lutje Schipholt earned the award on Nov. 25, 2019.

The 2-0 Golden Bears return to action on Tuesday night when they host the 2-0 Utah State Aggies. Tipoff between Cal and Utah State is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday's contest will be streamed on the Cal Live Stream.
