Oregon State Falls at No. 12 Washington

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Oregon State volleyball team kept it a close battle for three sets against No. 12 Washington but weren't able to steal a set to eventually fall (25-27, 20-25, 16-25) to the Huskies on Friday night.

Freshman Kateryna Tkachenko paced the Beavers with 14 kills while picking up six digs and a solo block. Lindsey Schell chipped in six kills to go along with two blocks while freshman Izzi Szulczewski was all over the stat sheet with 24 assists, five digs, five kills and two blocks.

Senior Grace Massey led the team with a game-high 12 digs while Ellie Turner helped out defensively with nine. Mychael Vernon was a monster at the next, leading all players with two solo blocks on the night.

The Beavers hung tight in the first two sets, highlighted by the first frame. After trailing 7-3 early, OSU rattled off the next six points followed by taking two of the next three plays to pull ahead 10-9. With the score even at 23-23, kills from Vernon and Tkachenko put OSU up 25-24 but the nationally-ranked Huskies responded with three straight to seal the set victory, 27-25.

Washington hit .336 compared to Oregon State's .220 clip. The Beavers were outhit in the match 54 kills to 35 while the Huskies also held the advantage in aces, 7-2, assists, 50-30, and digs, 49-43. Both squads rejected six total blocks on the night.

Oregon State concludes its road schedule on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 12 p.m. travelling to No. 22 Washington State on the Pac-12 Network with Jason Armenio on the call. The Beavers return home next week for their final matches of the 2021 campaign, hosting Arizona State on Nov. 24 before welcoming in-state rival Oregon on Nov. 26 for Senior Night.
