Sun Devils Drop Match At Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Iman Isanovic and Marta Levinska reached double figures in kills in Sun Devil Volleyball's setback at Oregon State on Wednesday afternoon, falling in four sets (25-18, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17). 

Notable Stats

  • Arizona State (15-15, 7-12 Pac-12) fell to Oregon State (5-24, 3-16 Pac-12), snapping the Sun Devils' three-match win streak against the Beavers and splitting the season series.
  • Junior outside hitter Iman Isanovic had 14 kills to lead the team, her 14th match in a row with double-digit kills. She has 488 kills this season, one away from cracking the top 10 for single season kills in ASU history.
  • Right behind Isanovic was sophomore pin hitter Marta Levinska with 13 kills. She also added nine digs.
  • Grad libero Jamye Cox notched 22 digs for her sixth match in a row reaching double figures in digs. It was her season high and second match this season reaching 20+ in that category.
  • The setting duties were split as sophomore Ella Snyder had 19 kills and junior Shannon Shield had 13. 
  • Junior middle blocker Beatrice Badini had five kills on a .400 clip, a career high for her. She also notched four digs, a personal best.

Set One: Oregon State 25, Arizona State 18
The Beavers jumped out to a 5-2 lead after scoring four in a row, a block from Geli Cyr and Claudia Stahlke stopping that run. Behind a couple errors from OSU, Arizona State put together three in a row to tie it at 12-12, but the home team stopped the run to take back the lead. Another block gave the Sun Devils the 16-15 lead before the Beavers scored three straight to get back on top 18-16 and force a timeout from ASU. Another 5-0 run from the home team made it a 23-17 deficit. OSU took the set on an attack error, 25-18. Both teams hit below .100 in the set.

Set Two: Arizona State 25, Oregon State 19
With Isanovic at the service line, ASU jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Beavers chipped away at the lead with a 4-0 run to get within one, 11-10 but back-to-back kills from Isanovic pushed it to a 13-10 lead. ASU allowed a 4-0 run by OSU to make it 16-15 in favor of the Beavers. With kills from Roberta Rabelo and Levinska, the Sun Devils got back on top 19-16 after scoring four-straight points. It ended up growing into a 7-1 run after kills from Rabelo and Isanovic pushed the lead to 23-17. An error sealed the 25-19 win for ASU.

Set Three: Oregon State 25, Arizona State 17
It started as a set of runs as an early 4-0 run for Oregon State put ASU down 6-2 until a service error stopped the streak. The Sun Devils rallied to score four in a row with two kills from Levinska and tie it up at 6-6. OSU took back the lead with three-straight points before Isanovic got the kill to make it a 9-7 deficit. A 4-1 run for the home team pushed its lead to 14-9. Isanovic got a kill and a block to get within three, down 17-14, before OSU scored three in a row to push the lead back up to 20-14. An ASU error gave OSU the set, 25-17.

Set Four: Oregon State 25, Arizona State 17
A kill from Beatrice Badini tied it up at 6-6 early in the fourth. Snyder served up an ace to get within one, down 11-10, but the Beavers later responded with a 9-1 run to make it 20-11. A late 3-0 run from the Sun Devils saw a kill from Levinska to make it 23-15, but the damage had been done. Oregon State won the set 25-17 to take the match.
