Cal Welcomes Broncos To Bear Territory

Grant Anticevich and the Golden Bears will look to make it six straight wins at home when they host Santa Clara on Saturday.

BERKELEY – The California men's basketball team is aiming for its sixth straight win in Haas Pavilion as it hosts Santa Clara at 6 p.m. PT on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
Cal (5-5) is in the midst of a four-game homestand, having kicked off the stretch with a thorough 72-46 win against Idaho State on Wednesday. The visiting Broncos (7-3) raced out to a 5-0 start on the season before losing three of five from Nov. 24-Dec. 7. Santa Clara has not played a true road game yet this season.
The non-conference contest is part of a Cal basketball doubleheader in Haas Pavilion on Saturday, as the women's team hosts McNeese earlier in the afternoon at 2 p.m. PT. Fans who purchase a ticket to and attend the women's game will be granted access to the men's game. All fans 12 and older attending the game will be required to show proof of a full COVID-19 vaccination and a photo ID prior to entry.

  • Cal's five-game home win streak is its longest since winning eight in a row from Feb. 28, 2019 to Dec. 11, 2019.
  • The Bears are 14-3 at home against non-conference opponents under head coach Mark Fox.
  • Saturday will be the 75th all-time meeting between Cal and Santa Clara. The Bears lead the series, 45-29, and have won three consecutive times when playing in Berkeley. The Broncos won the most recent meeting, 71-52, in Santa Clara on Dec. 7, 2019.
  • Cal limited Idaho State on Wednesday to 46 points – its fewest allowed since Feb. 24, 2017 vs. Oregon State (46) – and a 28% field-goal percentage, the lowest by an opponent since Arizona State shot 25.4% on Feb. 8, 2017.
  • Cal has out-rebounded or tied its opponent on the glass in 14 of the past 18 games, including a plus-18 margin (42-24) vs. Oregon State.
  • Cal is 5-0 when dishing out 10-plus assists this season, including a season-high 16 vs. San Diego (Nov. 15), 12 vs. Oregon State (Dec. 2) and 13 most recently vs. Idaho State (Dec. 8). Joel Brown (2.8 APG) and Jordan Shepherd (2.3 APG) lead the team in assists.
  • Andre Kelly is second in the Pac-12 and 36th nationally in rebounds per game (9.2) through Dec. 10. The senior forward is also shooting 63.8% from the field, ranking third in the conference and 21st nationally.
  • Kelly (4) and Grant Anticevich (3) have seven combined double-doubles this season. Anticevich has posted back-to-back double-doubles at Utah (Dec. 5) and against Idaho State (Dec. 8).

Cal will take a week off from competition for final exams before it hosts Dartmouth at 1 p.m. PT Sunday, Dec. 19.
