Hockey Adds Single Game at #11 Northeastern

Jan 6, 2022

BOSTON -- The Arizona State men's ice hockey team (12-10-0) agreed to terms with No. 11 Northeastern University (13-4-1) on adding a single non-conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 5 p.m. MST at Matthews Arena.

ASU is currently on a 10-day road trip that includes a series at Boston University on Jan. 7-8 and Rochester Institute of Technology on Jan. 13-14 in Boston and Rochester, respectively. The Sun Devils vs. Huskies matchup counts as one of ASU's 36 total games allowed by the NCAA in the regular season.

"We are thrilled this worked out," said head coach Greg Powers. "Northeastern is a great team and program, so to pick up a game against a quality opponent is a big plus for our players. We're proud that in a time where some people seem to be looking to get rid of games, we are adding them."

Northeastern is currently ranked No. 11 in the DCU/USCHO Division I Men's Poll, while ASU is on the cusp and would be No. 21 if the top-20 rankings continued. Historically, the pair met only once when the Sun Devils made a trip out east to play the then-No. 17 Huskies during the 2016-17 season. In only its second year as an NCAA program, ASU dropped both games.
