Jan 7, 2022

Washington senior Sami Reynolds has been named a replacement athlete for the 2022 USA Softball National Team that will compete at the 2022 World Games this July in Alabama.

The Huskies will be well represented on the USA team this summer, as Washington's Heather Tarr will serve as the head coach. Additionally veteran infielder Ali Aguilar, a 2017 UW graduate, made the roster.

Reynolds, an outfielder from Snohomish, Wash., will represent her country for the first time, serving as an alternate for the team, which includes 15 players and three replacements.

In 2021, Reynolds batted .321 with 12 home runs and 39 runs batted in, earning first-team All-Region and second-team All-Pac-12. She was also an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and a member of the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll in 2021.

Aguilar won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2020 Olympic Games last summer in Tokyo. She was also a member of two World Championship gold medal teams and has played on the senior team since 2017. A three-time, first-team All-Pac-12 selection during her time at UW, Aguilar, from Orangevale, Calif., batted .367 with 58 homers and 210 RBI during her college career.

Tarr, entering her 17th season as Washington's head coach, is taking command of the USA team for the first time, having served as an assistant coach at the 2020 Olympics. She was also head coach of the U.S. U-19 National Team. In her 17 seasons as head coach at her alma mater, Tarr has won 704 games, earning seven trips to the Women's College World Series and the 2009 NCAA Championship.
