Jan 16, 2022

MARICOPA, Ariz. – Arizona Men's Golf used a 4-2-2 victory over Arizona State in the afternoon of Sunday's opener to the Copper Cup to take a 7-5 lead in points heading into Monday's finale at Ak Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. The Wildcat quartet of Chaz Aurilia, Santeri Lehesmaa, Chase Sienkiewicz and Johnny Walker earned the wins in match play following the two teams' split of the morning action.

"I was proud of how our entire lineup competed throughout a long day on the course," said head coach Jim Anderson. "To start a new year off with this level of quality golf is a testament to our program's preparation and execution of our plan. We put ourselves in a good position to shoot low scores again tomorrow."

The Wildcats opened Sunday by splitting its "Four Ball" competition in the morning the Sun Devils with the pairings of Cal McCoy and Christian Banke earning the first point of the day before Chase Sienkiewicz and Jackson Norwich dominated their pairing by five points.

Monday's final day of action will mirror Sunday's schedule with a morning "Four Ball" format with each team playing eight players for four points before the afternoon single match play to cap the event, which is formatted similar to the Ryder Cup.
