TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 14 Arizona men's tennis team secured a major win against No. 5 Texas. The Cats defeated the Longhorns 4-3 at LaNelle Robson Center on Friday, Jan. 21.

"This is huge for our program. If you look back five years ago, you dream of a day like this, but we've been building this for a while," said head coach Clancy Shields.

With a packed house, Arizona's doubles teams did not disappoint. Jett Middelton and Filip Malbasic were second off the court winning 6-3, followed by Carlos Hassey and Colton Smith who won their match 6-4. These pairs secured the doubles point for Arizona.

Wildcats captain Jonas Ziverts snagged the first singles point against Texas' Eliot Spizzirri winning both sets 6-4, 6-3. Gustaf Strom, who sprained his ankle two days before the matchup,  was second off the court defeating Micah Braswell 6-4, 6-3.

Filip Malbasic solidified the Wildcats win against the Longhorns after winning 7-5, 6-4 against Chih Chi Huang on court six.

It was a team effort that secured the win for Arizona. Strom and Ziverts were each awarded a game ball for their crushing performances.

The match ended just in time for the Cats to get ready for their flight to Malibu, Calif. where they will faceoff against another top 20 team, the Pepperdine Wave on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. MST.
