No. 12 UCLA Begins Spring Season at The Match in the Desert

LOS ANGELES – The No. 12 UCLA women's golf teams opens the spring portion of its season in The Match in the Desert held at Superstition Mountain Golf Club in Gold Canyon, Ariz. Competition at the 36-hole stroke play event will begin Sunday, Jan. 23 and end Monday, Jan. 24.

Joining the Bruins in the seven-team field is defending National Champion No. 15 Ole Miss, 2021 NCAA runner-up No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 23 Arizona State, No. 17 Arizona, Kansas and Denver.
 
Competing in the Bruins' starting five are juniors Emma Spitz and Emilie Paltrinieri and freshmen Alessia Nobilio, Zoe Antoinette Campos and Caroline Canales. Senior Simar Singh will be competing individually. Spitz begins the tournament ranked as the No. 13 golfer in the latest Golf Week women's individual collegiate rankings.
 
Spitz is on a scoring streak of five consecutive under-par rounds, including two sub-70 scores. In her most recent contest, Spitz posted a runner-up, second-place finish (211, -18) at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview. Spitz has a scoring average of 73.3 this season and an average of 70.5 strokes per round in her last two competitions.
 
Campos and Nobilio are tied for second on the team with three under-par rounds so far this season. Nobilio – who has notched two top-five finishes this season – has a scoring average 72.5.
 
The Bruins have recorded four top-five finishes as a team in each of their last four tournaments.
