USC's Simon Gallas Named MPSF Offensive Player of the Week

Jan 24, 2022

LOS ANGELES--Trojan redshirt sophomore Simon Gallas was named the MPSF Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in USC's matches against Penn State and Ohio State in this past weekend's Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge.

This is Gallas' first MPSF Player of the Week honors, and he is the first Trojan to be honored in the 2022 season.  He was also named the Off The Block Opposite Hitter of the Week.

Gallas had a career-high 30 kills—the fourth most kills in a match by a Trojan in the rally scoring era—to lead the No. 12 USC men's volleyball team to a 3-1 upset over No. 3 Penn State on Friday (Jan. 21).

The only Trojans with more kills than Gallas in a match during the rally scoring era, which began in 2001, were record-holder Brook Billings (36 versus Pacific in 2002), Lucas Yoder (33 versus Penn State in 2017) and Billy Fauntleroy (31 vs. Grand Canyon in 2020).

Gallas hit .583 in the match (with only 2 errors on 48 attempts) and he added 6 digs and 2 blocks.

In USC's 3-1 loss to the No. 11 Buckeyes on Saturday (Jan. 22), Gallas added 11 kills, 9 digs 2 blocks and an ace.
