USC Women’s Volleyball Signs Rylie McGinest, Daughter of USC All-American Linebacker Willie McGinest

Jan 31, 2022

LOS ANGELES – The USC women's volleyball program has signed prep middle blocker Rylie McGinest (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS) to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Brad Keller announced on Monday, Jan. 31.

"Rylie is a fast and explosive athlete and can get on the ball quick," said Keller. "Watching her perform in the club and USA pipeline over the years has us excited to see what she can do at the next level. More importantly, Rylie represents the core values of our program in so many aspects of her life both on and off the court. We are excited for her to join the Women of Troy."

McGinest prepped at Long Beach Poly High School and played for Mizuno Long Beach VBC. Nationally, she was PrepVolleyball.com's No. 49-ranked recruit in 2020 and has had five years of experience in the USA Volleyball High Performance training program (2017-21). McGinest is a two-time AVCA Phenom List honoree and a two-time All-Moore League selection (2018-19). In 2019, she was honored at the Girls Junior National Championship as a member of the all-tournament team.

McGinest is the daughter of USC All-American linebacker Willie McGinest, who was a three-time all-conference player for the Trojans and went on to win three Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots. He was the fourth overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft.

The Women of Troy (15-15, 10-10 Pac-12) finished in seventh place in the final Pac-12 standings. Under second-year head coach Brad Keller, the Trojans signed the nation's top-ranked incoming class of recruits according to PrepVolleyball.com, which includes Adonia Faumuina (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS), Jordan Middleton (Phoenix, Ariz./Hamilton HS), Gala Trubint (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) and now McGinest.
