Reynolds and Klingler Named to USA Softball Roster for 2022 Canada Cup and Japan All-Star Series

Feb 3, 2022

Washington seniors Sami Reynolds and Baylee Klingler were named to the USA Softball roster for the 2022 Canada Cup, held in Surrey, B.C., June 20-26, and the Japan All-Star Series, which will take place in Fukushima, Japan, Aug. 1-9.

Earlier this year, Reynolds was named as an alternate for the 2022 USA Softball National Team that will compete at the 2022 World Games in July in Alabama. UW Head Coach Heather Tarr will lead the red, white and blue for the 2022 season. Additionally, 2017 UW graduate Ali Aguilar was tabbed to the Japan All-Star Series roster.

In 2021, Reynolds batted .321 with 12 home runs and 39 RBI, earning first-team All-Region and second-team All-Pac-12 honors. She was also an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete and a member of the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll last year.

Klingler, a 2021 Second-Team All-American, led the Pac-12 in runs scored and finished fourth in RBI, one of only two Pac-12 players to score 50 runs and drive in 50 runs. Her 17 doubles and 33 extra-base hits led the conference. In Pac-12 play, she led the league in runs with 21, while her 23 RBI were second only to graduated senior Morganne Flores' 24 RBI.

Aguilar won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2020 Olympic Games last summer in Tokyo. She was also a member of two World Championship gold medal teams and has played on the senior team since 2017. A three-time, first-team All-Pac-12 selection during her time at UW, Aguilar batted .367 with 58 homers and 210 RBI during her college career.

Tarr, entering her 17th season as Washington's head coach, is taking command of the USA team for the first time, having served as an assistant coach at the 2020 Olympics. She was also head coach of the U.S. U-19 National Team. In her 17 seasons as head coach at her alma mater, Tarr has won 704 games, earning seven trips to the Women's College World Series and the 2009 NCAA Championship.
