Stember’s 4-Under Paces Ducks in Hawaii

Feb 3, 2022

WAIMEA, Hawaii – Nate Stember shot a 4-under 68 to lead Oregon in the first round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate played Thursday at Hapuna Golf Course.

Stember, a junior from Portland, played bogey-free golf on Thursday. He had back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes and also birdied the two par-fives on the front nine. Stember was tied for 13th individually, three strokes back of co-leaders Mason Anderson and James Leow, both from Arizona State.

As a team, Oregon was 16th following a 3-over 391 in a strong field that features six of the nation's top 10 teams.

How It Happened: In addition to Stember's 68, Oregon also counted 74s from Craig Ronne and Greyson Leach and a 75 from Owen Avrit.

Quotable
Head coach Casey Martin
"Nate played beautifully. Unfortunately everyone else struggled today except our individual Eric Doyle. Fortunately there are two more rounds and we expect to play better tomorrow."

Notable: Freshman Eric Doyle, playing as an individual, was the only other Duck under par. He matched his season best in relation to par with a 3-under 69 that included an eagle on the par-5 third hole. Individually, Doyle was tied for 23rd.
