TEMPE - Over 1,200 fans came to witness the No. 4 Sun Devils take on the No. 17 Stanford Cardinal. ASU walked away with a 25-15 victory, celebrating a huge 149 win from No. 9 Kyle Parco over No. 12 Jaden Abas. Jacori Teemer remains undefeated at 14-0, and Michael McGee recorded his 100th career victory in a 17-1 3:25 tech fall. Anthony Valencia almost had the upset over defending national champion Shane Griffith at 165 but lost by one point in the dying moments.

"I would have loved to see Anthony win that battle on the comeback," head coach Zeke Jones said. "The 149 was a huge match, with two All-Americans wrestling each other. I don't know if the people really knew that. Anytime you have two guys, two All-Americans, wrestling each other is huge, and for Kyle to dominate was huge too. Of course McGee getting us started was awesome. If we would've won that 165 battle it would have been a clean sweep in the tough bouts."

How it Happened
125: Brandon Courtney (ASU) over (STAN) (For.)
Stanford's Logan Ashton missed weight so Stanford forfeited 125 to put ASU up 6-0 to start the dual.

133: Michael McGee (ASU) over Jackson DiSario (STAN) (TF 17-1 3:25)
McGee's pending hundredth career victory did not take long to be cemented. It was clear McGee was more than ready to get the Sun Devils going for the day, as he was incredibly dominant in the first two periods. His memorable matchup began with him getting two two-point takedowns, a four-point nearfall, and a two-point nearfall all in the opening period while allowing DiSario just one escape point. To start the second McGee got a two point reversal and a four point nearfall to secure the technical fall.

"I'm happy I got it in dominant fashion," McGee said. "It's always nice to get bonus points for the team, but it's just another win for me. One hundred wins - I just feel like I'm getting old. It definitely feels good."

When asked what he's improved on since his first ever victory, McGee said:
"I've just had to continuously improve in each position - top, bottom, neutral. I can't really pinpoint one thing because I feel like every day I come into training with the goal to just get better. I would just say my attitude - coming into practice every day with the right attitude. Just get better at something, whatever it may be."

"He's wrestling the best of everybody on the team, consistently week-in, week-out," Jones said. "I think Kyle Parco is starting to feed off McGee, saying okay, that's how you wrestle a complete match. In the first period, it's kind of a two-to-one, you're feeling eachother out, but where the bouts get seperated is in the second period and that's what Michael [McGee] and Parco are doing really well right now. They're separating that score in the second period, and then trying to really dominate in the third."

141: Real Woods (STAN) over Mykey Ramos (ASU) (MD 11-3)
Mykey Ramos' first career match at 141 began with a takedown for Stanford's Real Woods. Ramos managed to escape, making it 2-1, but the Cardinal avenged his lead with a takedown to close the first. In the third Ramos trailed 7-1, but tallied a pair of escapes to get him back on the scoresheet in the closing period to make it an 11-3 ending.

149: Kyle Parco (ASU) over Jaden Abas (STAN) (MD 11-3)
The 149 was highly anticipated, with two All-Americans facing off. Parco was able to "dominate" as Coach Jones put it, to secure an eight point win. The premier match up of the day took a period to heat up, as the first segment was scoreless, but the offense began after an escape for Abas. Parco went ahead and mounted a two point takedown, four point nearfall, escape, and two point takedown before his opponent was able to get an escape to make it 9-2. Parco got his third takedown with 54 seconds left in the third to make it 11 on his end. Note: During a pause in competition for a review, Stanford was hit with an unsportsmanlike penalty that gave ASU an 11-3 lead in the team points.

157: Jacori Teemer (ASU) over Charlie Darracott (STAN) (Dec 9-3)
The 157 matchup began slowly with only a two point takedown from Teemer and an escape for his opponent in the first period. The second period was not entirely different with only a two point takedown for Teemer and another escape for his opponent in the second. The "big feet-to-back" takedown can be highlighted as the game changer in the third, as a four-point move opened up the match to make it a 9-3 ending, giving Teemer his 14th consecutive win. The Sun Devil still has yet to record a single loss on the year.

165: Shane Griffith (STAN) over Anthony Valencia (ASU) (Dec 7-6)
Valencia fell to Griffith in a down-to-the-wire matchup. A pair of takedowns and an escape put his opponent up 5-0 through the first two periods, but Valencia's persistence thrust him back into the match with a two point take down and a four point near fall midway through the third frame to put him ahead 6-5 and get DFA bouncing. As time wound down, the Cardinal reversed Valencia to go up 7-6. The two then moved to the center where Valencia started on the bottom hoping to get the tying escape-point, but Griffith kept him hooked and rode out the clock.

"It's low, high, low, so we rode that rollercoaster mentally," Jones said. "I think it showed that Anthony is never out of a match. When he put the kid on his back I thought it was pretty close to being pinned. That gave us a lot of energy. Then, of course, Griffith reversed him and he couldn't get away. That was a bummer for us, but I still think it let us know that Anthony's going to fight until the end no matter what, and he did."

174: Tyler Eischens (STAN) over Ryan Rochford (ASU) (Fall 2:50)
The match began with a takedown for Stanford, but Rochford fought back to get a reversal. The match stretched out with wrestling, but ended with Eischens getting a reversal and converting it into a pin in the first period.

184: Nick Addison (STAN) over Josh Nummer (ASU) (Dec 4-3)
Nummer and Addison would provide a close match, with a takedown for Addison and an escape for Nummer at 46 seconds to close out the first and bring it to a 2-1 match in Addison's favor. Nummer evened the score in the second, but Addison achieved another takedown with a minute left in the second to make it 4-2. Nummer shined in the third, with an impressive move that put him on the front foot for about 40 seconds and saw the Sun Devil slam Addison three times, but his grips weren't secure enough to earn points and resulted in a 4-3 decision in Addison's favor.

197: Kordell Norfleet (ASU) over Nick Stemmet (STAN) (Dec 8-5)
The match against Norfleet and Stemmet was another close one. In the first, both wrestlers matched each other's tempo and split takedowns and escapes to go to the second period tied at 3-3. Norfleet pulled ahead with a reversal to make it 5-3, and the second period closed with him up 5-4 after an escape from Stemmet. A stalemate was called with 18 seconds left in the third that setup a 2-point takedown for Norfleet with six seconds remaining. Norfleet riding time bonus gave him the 8-5 victory.

285: Cohlton Schultz (ASU) over Peter Ming (STAN) (MD 12-2)
Cohlton Schultz managed a 3-0 lead in the first with a two point takedown with 1:12 remaining before getting an extra point off back-to-back stall calls on Ming. With less than a minute left in the second period, Schultz forced a takedown to make it a 5-0 lead. A two point nearfall following an escape for Ming made it a 7-1 match going into the third. Schultz did not see himself in a defensive position until the third period, but he quickly wrangled out of it to get two takedowns in between a Stanford escape to secure a victory for the Sun Devils and close out the day.
