Stanford Falls at ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 3 Shane Griffith avenged a Pac-12 finals loss from last season, but Stanford fell at No. 4 Arizona State, 25-15, Friday, at Desert Financial Arena.

Stanford (3-3, 1-1 Pac-12) won four of the 10 bouts, including two by bonus points. Arizona State moves to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-12.

Griffith earned a 7-6 decision over No. 7 Anthony Valencia at 165 pounds. The Westwood, New Jersey, native led 5-0 going into the final frame. Valencia chose neutral and registered a takedown and turned Griffith for four near fall points, but gave up a reversal with short time left on the clock. Griffith improved to 12-2 on the season and 52-3 in his Cardinal career.

Real Woods, who is ranked No. 5 nationally at 141 pounds, got the Cardinal on the board with an 11-3 major decision over Mykey Ramos. Woods is now 10-0 on the season and 35-4 for his career.

Redshirt junior Tyler Eischens registered his team-leading sixth fall of the season. Ranked No. 29 at 174 pounds, Eischens secured the pin in the first period over Ryan Rochford to improve to 15-8 on the season.

Junior Nick Addison rounded out the scoring for the Cardinal, posting a 4-3 decision over Josh Nummer at 184 pounds. Addison is now 3-1 overall.

Stanford returns to The Farm, playing host to CSU Bakersfield on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion. Admission is free.
