Miller, Sadler Set to Lead Buffs Against Washington

Feb 5, 2022

BOULDER – Colorado's offseason additions in Quay Miller and Tameiya Sadler will help lead the Buffaloes into action against their former Washington teammates on Sunday (Noon MT).

The two former Huskies have made big contributions for the Buffs in their first season and it's a welcome sight for CU fans, coaches and players alike.

The Buffs and Huskies played met twice last season with Miller and Sadler both doing damage against their future team. Miller had 23 points in the two games, while Sadler combined for 34 points against the Buffs. Both players hit a pair of 3-pointers in the Pac-12 Tournament meeting, with Sadler going off for 18 points and eight assists.

"We don't talk about that [game]," head coach JR Payne joked about Miller and Sadler. "We joke about it and they'd say something. They both are wonderful. Everybody loves them."

"I mean I say it sometimes around Coach T [Toriano Towns]," Sadler chimed in. "I like to give him hard time sometimes."

Coach Payne and the Buffs had heavily recruited Miller out of high school, but the Washington native opted to begin her career close to home. When both Miller and Sadler decided to transfer it didn't make that much convincing to get them to Boulder.

"I think what really made my decision to come to Colorado was the coaching staff," Sadler recalled. "I had a friend that knew JR and then playing against them I could see how hard they played and how serious they were about basketball."

"Once we knew that Colorado wanted us both it was a deal," Miller added.

The duo has been welcome additions for the Buffs this season.

Miller is the team's second-leading scorer with 11.4 points per game. She's scored 10 or more points in 11 games this season, netting 20 twice this season. Miller had her first CU double-double against Southern California with 13 points and 10 rebounds earlier this season.

Sadler, who was inserted into the starting lineup at Arizona, has started the last four contests for the Buffs. She's averaging 17.3 minutes per game and had a season-high 13 points in the Buffs' win at Utah.

"They are upbeat, positive, happy, joyful and they work hard but they don't take themselves too seriously," Payne boasted. "You can coach them really hard and they have the right mindset of like 'Ok I got you.' They don't complain or pout. They're just right where they need to be mentally."

Colorado (14-6, 3-6 Pac-12) needs this game to get back on track as the season continues to wind down. Colorado has lost six of their last seven and Washington comes in with an 0-7 mark in Pac-12 play.

"We need to win," Miller cemented. "If it was an Arizona team or California team, it would still be the same goal. We need to win and take care of business."

Sunday's game will be on the Pac-12 Networks with Thad Anderson and Kami Carmann-Snyder. Cory Lopez will be on the Colorado Radio Network and 630 KHOW locally, starting with pregame at 11:30 a.m. MT.
