Cal Opens 2022 Season Friday At Navy

Senior Quinnlyn Mason and the Golden Bears open the 2022 campaign Friday at Navy.

2022 SEASON OPENS FRIDAY
— Cal is the first Pac-12 team to play in 2022 and one of three from the league to play on opening day of the Division I lacrosse season Friday when the Golden Bears visit Navy
— Cal and Navy have played twice previously with the teams splitting their two meetings with Cal a 13-6 winner in Berkeley the first time the clubs met on Mar. 17, 2011, while Navy won, 15-5, in Annapolis the following season on Mar. 28, 2012
— Cal's most recent season-opening victory was an 11-9 win at UC Davis on Feb. 9, 2018

— Denise Wescott was promoted to associate head coach on Jan. 26, 2022, after serving for three seasons as an assistant coach with the Golden Bears from 2019-21
— Nikki Zaccaro is Cal's active leader in career games played (62) and games started (52), points (127), goals (54), assists (73), shots (168) and shots on goal (112)
— Cal's draw control unit that has won more draw controls than its opponents in each of last three seasons
— Cal had a team bonding trip early in its 2022 training camp in which the team went "glamping" at the Costanoa Lodge in the coastal town of Pescadero just under 70 miles from Berkeley 
  
COMING UP
— Cal continues its two-game East Coast road trip at No. 11/11 Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 13 (Noon EST/9 am PST) 
— Cal begins a three-game homestand by hosting San Diego State in its first home game of the 2022 campaign on Friday, Feb. 18 (5 pm PST), followed by contests against No. 14/14 Denver (Sunday, Feb. 20, Noon PST) and UC Davis (Saturday, Feb. 26, 2 pm PST)

LAST SEASON
— Cal finished 2-16 overall and 0-10 in the Pac-12 in 2021 but seven of the Bears' losses were by two goals or less including four by a single goal and one in overtime 
— Six of Cal's final nine losses in 2021 were decided by two goals or less including a string of five in a row to begin the stretch and its regular-season finale contest against Pac-12 champion and then unbeaten No. 12/13 Stanford
