Cats Turn It Around on the Road, Win at WMU

Kalamazoo, Mich. - Arizona ended their midwest road trip with a 4-3 win over Western Michigan on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022. The Cats now lead the series 1-0 as it was the first ever matchup between the two programs.

The Wildcats were off to a good start after securing the doubles point. Pac-12 Player of the Week Lexi Ryngler and Kayla Wilkins were first off the courts beating Femke Tjona-A-Joe and Kristina Tirasplosky 6-4. Midori Castillo and Belen Nevenhoven finalized the doubles point for the Cats after a 7-6(4) tiebreaker set against Lindsey Zieglar and Karin Hamilton on court three. 

Arizona won three out of the six singles points pushing them toward the win. Freshman Parker Fry was first off the court after defeating Kiana Rizzolo 6-3, 6-1. Nevenhoven was right behind Fry beating her opponent Taylor Smith in two straight sets 6-2. Wilkins was down 2-6 in the first set, but pulled out the win for herself and the Cats after she won 6-1 in the last two sets against Ana Guadiana. 

The team is now 4-1 as they head back to Tucson, Ariz. to prepare for their next home match against NAU on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, at 11 a.m. MST.
