Men's Basketball Heads to Boulder for Clash with Colorado

Feb 11, 2022

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's basketball team prepares to battle Colorado this weekend in Boulder as the Runnin' Utes and Buffs take the hardwood floor on Saturday, Feb. 12, inside the CU Events Center.

Jacob Tobey will have the call in the first meeting this year between Utah and Colorado while veteran head coach Mike Montgomery serves as the analyst in the Pac-12 Network broadcast.

MANIC MADSEN
Freshman Gabe Madsen showed that he can score and score in a hurry last weekend against Oregon. The 6-6 guard drilled 3-of-4 from 3-point range in the opening minutes of the game before finishing with a team-high 19 points – which was just a point shy of tying his season/career high in points. The five made 3-pointers tied his career-high set back on Jan. 22 against USC at home. In the last five games, Madsen is second on the team in scoring with the Rochester, Minn., product averaging 10.8 points with a .415 shooting clip.

LAST TIME OUT
Despite a flurry of 3-pointers from Gabe Madsen and staunch defense, the Utes were met with a hot-shooting Oregon team once again in its near 80-77 loss last Saturday. The 19 points for Madsen was a point shy from tying his season-high (20 points) while his five 3-pointers tied a career-high set against then #16/15 USC at home.

Marco Anthony picked up his four-career double-double and second of his Ute career scoring 15 points with 12 rebounds – eight of which came on the offensive end while the rest of the team had five. Rollie Worster tied his season-high in points once again with 13 points while dishing out six assists to go with six boards. Branden Carlson closed things out on the offensive end for Utah scoring 11 points with six rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting.

The Utes, who have been top-5 and top-10 in the nation in free throws throughout the season, was an uncharacteristic 15-of-23 from the line in the loss.

UP NEXT
Utah remains on the road and closes out its final road swing in the Bay Area. The Runnin' Utes first take on Stanford Thursday, Feb. 17, at 9 p.m. (MT) on ESPNU before facing the California Bears on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. (MT) on Pac-12 Networks.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Utes return home after their final road swing the following week to start their three-game homestand to wrap up the regular-season against Arizona (Feb. 24), Arizona State (Feb. 26) and Colorado (March 3). The Arizona and Arizona State games will be the second of a double-header with women's basketball as they take on Oregon and Oregon State.
