Buffaloes Take On Portland

BOULDER – Colorado women's tennis team will head to Portland, Ore., this weekend for a pair of matches against Portland and Portland State.
 
The Buffs open the weekend against Portland State Friday at 3 p.m. MT in Beaverton at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Stadium before returning to Portland to face the Pilots Saturday at 10 a.m. MT at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.
 
Colorado is coming off of its first win of the season with a 5-2 decision over Gonzaga. True freshman Mila Stanojevic continues to lead the Buffaloes with a singles win streak currently at 12-straight. She was joined by Betina Tokac, Caroline Pozo, Maria Campos and Ellen Puzak who all picked up their first dual singles victories this weekend.
 
In doubles play, Colorado split the two doubles points this past weekend but were close to capturing the point against the No.2-ranked tandem for Baylor. Puzak and Tokac won both their doubles matches in the No.3 spot in each match, while Pozo and Campos went 1-1, including a 7(5)-6 loss to the team from Baylor.
 
This is the only nonconference road trip for Colorado remaining on the schedule. Following this the team returns to take on Iowa at the end of the month, followed by the Pac-12 opener against UCLA and USC.
 
SCOUTING PORTLAND STATE
Portland State has a 4-3 record this season with wins against Linfield College, San Diego Christian College, Seattle and UC Irvine. The team is on an 11-point streak with two sweeps against Seattle and UC Irvine after falling 4-3 to Point Loma. They also have a one-point loss to Portland and opened the season with a 7-0 loss to Oregon.
 
Nika Beukers leads the team with a 4-1 singles record, including wins in the No.1, 2, 4 and 5 positions. She has won four-straight singles matches. Their best duo is Majo Hernandez and Emily Rees with a 6-0 record in doubles play.
 
SCOUTING PORTLAND
Portland is 2-2 this season with wins over Portland State and Eastern Washington. They have two losses to Pac-12 opponents, a 7-0 loss to Washington and a 6-1 loss to Oregon.
 
Iva Zelic leads the team with a 3-1 record from the No.1 singles position. The team has a .364 singles win percentage and .300 doubles record led by Rimona Rouf and Sally Prethybridge wit ha 2-1 record.
