Wildcats Are Undefeated At Home After UNLV Win

Tucson, Ariz. - No. 17 Arizona won 6-1 against the UNLV Rebels. The Cats are now 11-2 and remain undefeated at home. 

The Wildcats secured the doubles point early in the match. No. 73 Jonas Ziverts and Filip Malbasic finished 6-1 on court one against Anton Ornberg and Jackson Atherton. Finalizing the doubles point for the Cats was No. 56 Herman Hoeyeraal and No. 58 Gustaf Strom with a 6-4 win against Zac Brodney and Milos Dabic. 

Arizona took five of the six singles points against UNLV. Hoeyeraal was first off the court with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Zach Garner. No. 42 Colton Smith snagged the second singles point after defeating Dabic 6-0, 6-2. Nick Lagaev was next with a 6-2, 6-0 sweep against Ornberg. Malbasic won the fourth singles point for the Cats after his 6-0, 6-2 sweep over Thomas Navarro. Senior captain Ziverts fell to No. 48 Christopher Bulus after two sets and a tough tiebreaker 4-6, 7-6 (6-2), 10-7. Strom secured the last singles point after a battle against Brodney that went 6-7 (2-6), 6-2, 10-5. 

The Cats are headed to Montgomery, Ala. for the Blue Gray Tennis Classic on Feb. 25-26, 2022. Then they are back at home to host the University of Oklahoma on Friday, March 4.
