PULLMAN, Wash.— The Washington men's basketball team lost to Washington State 78-70 in the first round of the Boeing Apple Cup Series.
The Huskies (13-13, 8-8) came out strong in the paint showing their physicality over the Cougars (15-12, 8-8). It was back-and-forth throughout the first half with both teams playing lock-down defense. Cole Bajema had nine points to lead the Huskies in scoring going into the break.
It was a battle until the end, with PJ Fuller hitting a big three to put the Dawgs within three points with eight minutes remaining in the contest. In the end, the Cougars were able to pull away and get the win.
PJ Fuller set a career high with 23 points and five three-pointers on the night to lead the Dawgs in scoring. Terrell Brown Jr. and Bajema both contributed 11.
