Lee Takes CGA Weekly Honor

Feb 23, 2022

BERKELEY – Just one day after winning the MPSF Gymnast of the Week award, California men's gymnastics co-captain Yu-Chen Lee has been awarded the College Gymnastic Association's (CGA) Co-Gymnast of the Week award, along with Oklahoma's Zach Nunez. This marks the first time since Kevin Wolting's 2015 win that any Cal men's gymnast has received that honor, and the first CGA award for the Bears since Noah Newfeld's April 2021 Rookie of the Week win.

Head coach J.T. Okada spoke at length about Lee's role on the team after Sunday's victory over Air Force, in which Lee won the all-around contest to help the Bears top 400 points for the first time this season.

"He comes in and puts in the work every day," said Okada. "Yu-Chen always knows what we're asking of him – his consistency is what sets him apart. That doesn't mean he always has perfect routines, but he shows the same level of commitment to every practice, every meet. Even when things don't go right, he always stays on track and doesn't let it phase him."

Lee and the Bears take on both Stanford and Air Force on Saturday, March 5 at Stanford's Burnham Pavilion.
