Feb 24, 2022

BERKELEY, Calif.— Coming off their first conference win of the season, the Washington women's basketball team beat Cal 61-60 in a game that came down to the final seconds. This is the Huskies (7-14, 2-11) first conference win on the road of the season.

The Dawgs came out red-hot on offense with Haley Van Dyke scoring 11 points, making three three-pointers to tie her career record of made threes in just the first quarter.

Going into the second period, the Huskies led the Golden Bears (12-10, 2-8) 21-18.

In the second quarter, Washington played strong defense, allowing them to capitalize on the offensive end. Their fast-paced motion offense and ball movement gave them strong looks at the basket. Thanks to a 15-4 run over 6:12 in the second quarter, the Huskies had a 39-27 lead over Cal going into halftime.

In the second half, the Huskies depth proved vital as they continued playing unselfishly to keep their lead. At the end of the third quarter, the Huskies led by eight points.

In the final period of the contest, it was back and forth. Cal was able to tie the ball game at 60 a piece with 40 seconds left in the game. In the end, the Dawgs were able to sneak out the win over Cal through poise and confidence with the ball.

Van Dyke finished with 20 points, tying her season high, and 11 rebounds. It was her fifth double-double of the season, and sixth game with double digit rebounding.

Nancy Mulkey was a force on both ends of the court, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four blocks, one of which kept the game tied with only nine seconds to go.

Lauren Schwartz was the third Husky to score in double digits, finishing with 12 points.
