Huskies Take First Game of UC San Diego Doubleheader 6-3

Feb 26, 2022

In Game 1 of a doubleheader, the Huskies took the field at Triton Ballpark looking to avenge their series-opening loss to UC San Diego.

UW struck first in the second inning as Josh Urps hit a two-out single to center scoring Preston Viltz from second. The Tritons stood firm however, answering with a two-run homerun to right field off starter Calvin Kirchoff.

In the third, Coby Morales stepped to the plate following a Will Simpson single. He kindly introduced the ball to the other side of the right field fence for his first homerun of the season making it a 3-2 ballgame.

In the bottom of the fourth, San Diego tied things up on another long ball. Husky bats remained hot though as AJ Guerrero and Michael Snyder scored in the fifth followed by Will Simpson in the sixth for the final run of the 6-3 game.

Starter Calvin Kirchoff stuck out 4 and walked 3 with 4 hits and 3 runs over 3 innings pitched. Jack Enger earned the win, his second of the season, and Colton McIntosh earned his third save with 6 Ks covering the final two innings.
