Ducks Cap Nonconference Play With Seventh Straight Win

EUGENE, Ore. – After jumping out to an early lead with the doubles point, Oregon overcame a bit of a slow start in singles play to top Saint Mary's, 4-1, Sunday at the Student Tennis Center in its final match before opening Pac-12 play.
 
Ares Teixido Garcia delivered the clincher with a three-set victory at No. 3 singles to extend the Ducks' winning streak to seven matches, their longest since the 2015-16 season.
 
How It Happened: The Ducks struck first for the seventh straight match, taking the doubles point to go up 1-0. Allison Mulville and Myah Petchey dominated their match at No. 3 doubles with a 6-0 win, before Lillian Mould and Ares Teixido Garcia won 6-3 to secure the opening point.
 
Oregon started slow in singles play, dropping the first set in four of the six matches. Freshman Karin Young continued her strong start with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot for her sixth straight singles win to make it 2-1, Ducks. After Luescher lost at the No. 1 spot, Petchey put UO one point away with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles to make it 3-1.
 
From there, the Ducks needed to flip one of the three remaining matches to clinch, as Uxia Martinez Moral dropped a tight opening set in a tiebreaker while Mould and Teixido Garcia got off to slow starts in their matches. Teixido Garcia would deliver the clincher at the No. 3 spot, dominating the deciding set in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 win.
