Rosholt, Women's Golf in Contention at Darius Rucker

Mar 1, 2022

HILTON HEAD, SC - Sun Devil Women's Golf shined bright on a national stage during the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club.

Arizona State moved up four spots into sole possession of second place, trailing only No. 5 Wake Forest for the top spot on the leaderboard. The Sun Devils delivered the best round at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in program history, carding a 285 (+1) despite facing a challenging course.

"After a little bit of a slow start today, we settled in and played well," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye remarked. "Our finish was especially solid. This is a golf course where even par is really good and requires a tremendous amount of patience."

Calynne Rosholt led the way individually for the Sun Devils, playing brilliantly for a second straight day. She ends the second round as the tournament leader at 139 (-3), thanks to a 69 (-2) today. The freshman caught fire in the middle of her round, recording five birdies during an eight-hole stretch as she made the turn. She now has nine birdies over two days, tied for the second-most of any individual. Rosholt also ranks in the Top-10 in Par 4 and Par 5 scoring average, showing off a well-balanced game.

"I was focused on one shot at a time and playing smart and staying relaxed on the course," Rosholt mentioned after the round.

Alexandra Forsterling is also firmly in contention for the individual title, sitting just two strokes back of her teammate at 141 (-1). She quickly turned around a slow start and started getting birdie putts to fall, finishing two-under over her final 14 holes. Forsterling's consistent play has allowed her to remain in the Top-5, along with one of the Top-3 scoring averages on Par 4 opportunities.

The biggest reason for the Sun Devils' jump was the play of Ashley Menne, as she rose 19 spots up the leaderboard and now sits in a tie for 28th. She shot a 72 (+1) to improve her score by three strokes, helping ASU catapult into second place. Menne avoided mistakes a majority of the day, setting herself up to finish in the top third of the loaded 90-golfer field.

Amanda Linner also turned it around in an important round, firing a 73 (+2) to shave four strokes off her score. She moved up 18 spots on the leaderboard and provided Arizona State a solid fourth counting score. Grace Summerhays was one of four Sun Devils to go lower than day one, finishing three-strokes better and moving up 10 spots herself.

Arizona State will finish the event up tomorrow, with the third round beginning at 9:20 AM MST for the second straight day. All five Sun Devils will tee-off on Hole 1, with one starting every 10 minutes. The Maroon & Gold will be paired with tournament leader No. 5 Wake Forest and third place No. 21 Baylor.
