USC Baseball's Offense Explodes Late for 15-4 Win Over Wagner

Mar 5, 2022

LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team didn't get its first hit until the sixth inning, but from there the floodgates opened as the Trojans scored 13 runs in the final three innings to beat Wagner 15-4 on Saturday afternoon.

Adrian Colon-Rosado hit a three-run homer for USC's first hit of the day, giving the Trojans a 5-4 lead that they would only build on. USC moves to 8-2 on the year with their sixth straight win, while Wagner drops to 1-7.

The Trojans did put up a pair of runs without the help of a hit through the first five innings, getting a couple of sacrifice flies. Wagner scored a run in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the frame.

A pair of walks in the sixth put two on with two outs in front of Colon-Rosado and he would smash the first pitch he saw off the scoreboard in right to put USC in front. Nick Lopez also doubled home a run in the inning to give the Trojans a 6-4 lead.

USC's offensive outburst only continued as the Trojans scored six in the seventh and three in the eighth. Garret Guillemette hit a three-run homer in the seventh and Trevor Halsema hit a two-run double. Colon-Rosado also added a run-scoring double in the seventh to his big offensive day. Tyresse Turner, Rhylan Thomas and Matt Keating all added RBI in the eighth.

Colon-Rosado finished the game with a career-high five RBI, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored.

Carson Lambert picked up the win as the pitcher of record when USC came back. He gave up just one run in 3.0 relief innings. Ethan Reed tossed a scoreless ninth to close out the win. Tyler Stromsborg gave up two earned runs and struck out six in his 5.0 innings as the starter.
