Anzaldo Homer Lifts Bears Past UCSD

Mar 6, 2022

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Tatum Anzaldo hit a go-ahead 3-run home run and Annabel Teperson threw a complete game in the circle to lead Cal to a 3-1 win over UCSD, closing out the San Diego Classic at the Triton Softball Field on Sunday.

Teperson gave up just one unearned run for the Bears (15-6) with five strikeouts to earn her first collegiate victory in the circle. Sona Halajian, Kacey Zobac, Acacia Anders, Alexis Bishop and Amani Bradley recorded a hit apiece for Cal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Teperson was strong early on for the Bears, allowing just one hit through the first two innings before the Tritons broke through in the third to take the lead. A throwing error followed by two singles made it 1-0 UCSD through three.

The Bears threatened in the top of the fifth after a leadoff single for Anders. D'Asha Saiki drew a one-out walk and Cal had runners on first and second. Following a flyout, Anzaldo came through with the clutch 3-run homer to the opposite field in left center.

After the Anzaldo home run, Teperson was dealing in the circle. She retired six straight UCSD batters heading into the seventh and had a clean inning to close it down for the win. She sat down the final 11 UCSD hitters to come to the plate.
