Chiles, Malabuyo Earn Pac-12 Weekly Honors

UCLA freshmen and U.S. Olympians Jordan Chiles and Emma Malabuyo have been awarded Pac-12 honors this week as the Freshman and Specialist of the Week, respectively.

Chiles earns her second Freshman of the Week honor this season. The 2020 Olympic silver medalist scored a career-high 39.800 in the Bruins' 198.050-197.200 victory over California, leading the Bruins to season-high team scores on vault (49.475), balance beam (49.625) and floor exercise (49.775). Chiles scored her second perfect 10 on floor and her third 10 overall. She also won uneven bars with a 9.975 and recorded career-best marks on vault (9.900) and balance beam (9.925). Chiles became just the ninth UCLA gymnast in history – and only the third UCLA freshman - to hit the 39.8 mark in the all-around.

Malabuyo receives her first-ever Pac-12 weekly award, winning Specialist of the Week honors. The 2020 U.S. Olympic alternate earned career-high marks of 9.975 on balance beam and 9.950 on floor exercise to help the Bruins score their highest team total since 2019. Malabuyo's balance beam victory was her fourth this season and third in a row. Her scores on beam and floor helped the Bruins record the fifth-highest marks in school history on those two events.

Joining Chiles and Malabuyo as Pac-12 weekly award-winners are Utah's Maile O'Keefe (Gymnast of the Week) and Stanford's Taylor Lawson (Coaches Choice).

UCLA will conclude the regular season on Saturday, March 12 at 2pm against UC Davis on Senior Day in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
