Five Ute Swimmers Headed to 2022 NCAA Men's Championships

Mar 10, 2022

SALT LAKE CITY- Utah men's swimming is headed to Atlanta, Ga., to compete at the 2022 NCAA Men's Swimming Championships after record setting performances at the Pac-12 Championships.

Individually, senior Andrei Ungur will race in two events as he booked his ticket in the 100 back with a seed time of 45.87, a personal-best and a time he recorded during his leg of the 400 medley-relay at the conference championships. Ungur is also invited to compete in the 100 free after he recorded another personal-best (43.47) and NCAA B cut during his leg of the 400 free-relay.

The Utes captured an automatic cut (1:23.87) in the 200-medley relay breaking the school record that was previously set at the 2021 Pac-12 Championships. The mark ranks in the top-20 of the qualifying standards and puts Utah in a great position to score in the event. The relay squad of Ungur, Jaek Horner, Cooper deRyk and Finn O'Haimhirgin set the new school record at the conference championships and opened the door to also compete in the 400-medley relay where Ungur, Horner, Ben Waterman and O'Haimhirgin set another school record (3:07.29) to earn the NCAA B cut.

This marks the second consecutive year that Ungur, deRrk, and O'Haimhirgin will swim at the NCAA Championships in both the 200 and 400 medley events.

The 2022 NCAA Men's Swimming Championships will take place March 23-26 in Atlanta, Ga., inside the McAuley Aquatic Center.
