Another Successful Home Doubleheader For Women's Tennis

Tucson, Ariz. - The Wildcats were back in action today with two 4-0 sweeps over Drake and GCU at home. The women bounced back after their hiccup in California. 

The Cats made history today after defeating the Bulldogs in the first match ever between the two programs. And Arizona continued its winning streak in the series with GCU which now stands 10-0. 

Arizona secured both doubles points and all eight singles points in today's doubleheader. 

Kirsten Prelle and Salma Ziouti finalized the doubles point against Drake with a 6-4 victory over Ines Stephani and Rebecca Ehn. Freshmen pair Midori Castillo and Belen Nevenhoven clinched the doubles point against GCU with a 6-2 win over Sara Rakim and Krissy Vogel. 

The Wildcats continued to dominate the matches in singles play. Prelle won both of her singles matches in two sets. She defeated Drake's Ehn 6-2, 6-1, and won 6-3 in two straight sets against GCU's Rakim. 

Kayla Wilkins took the second singles point against Drake with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Daria Walczak. Lexi Ryngler finalized the morning win for the Wildcats when she defeated Stephani 6-4, 6-2. Nevenhoven defeated Aline Buhr 6-0, 6-4 to secure the first singles point against GCU. Ziouti claimed her win in a fiery match against GCU's Natasha Puehse 6-3, 6-1. 

No. 51 Arizona will play in its fifth conference match of the season on Friday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. against No. 50 Oregon. Then the women are back in Arizona, but this time in Tempe for a matchup against No. 71 Rice University on Friday, March 25.
