Mar 15, 2022
Amari Avery tied for eighth at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, her fourth straight top 8 to start her career.

Freshman Amari Avery used two late birdies to post her fourth straight top 8 finish while senior Katherine Muzi secured her fifth top 12 result this season to highlight USC's final round at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Tuesday (March 15) at the Palos Verdes G.C.

USC saw its two-tournament win streak come to an end with a sixth-place finish at 23-over 875 (295-287-293). Oregon won the event at 4-under while Wake Forest was second at 3-over.

Avery, who had also won two events in a row following her debut tie for sixth, birdied 5 and 6 - her last two holes of the day - to tie for eighth at 2-over 215 (76-68-71).

Avery now has eight rounds of par or better in 12 outings. She also joins fellow freshman Xin (Cindy) Kou with four straight top 15 starts to begin her season (Kou did it in the fall), something that hadn't previously been done at USC since Malia Nam in 2018.

Muzi did't have her A game today but still tied for 12th at 4-over 217 (71-70-76) for her fifth top 12 and sixth top 20 this year.

Kou tied for 38th at 9-over 222 (78-73-71), her final par round giving her 13 rounds of par or better this year, tying Muzi for team-high honors.

Sophomore Michaela Morard tied for 47th at 11-over 224 (72-76-76) while sophomore Brianna Navarrosa tied for 54th at 14-over 227 (76-76-75).
